Tell Halif Lahav Research Project

The Lahav Research Project, under the direction of Dr. Joe D. Seger (Cobb Institute of Archaeology, Mississippi State University), first began work at the site in 1976. Seger directed both Phase I and Phase II of the Lahav Project, whose purposes included the establishment of the stratigraphic history of Halif and a multidisciplinary investigation of the site in its environment. Phase III was under the co-direction of Dr. Paul F. Jacobs (Mississippi State University) and Dr. Oded Borowski (Emory University); Phase III centered work on Field IV to determine specific information from Iron II remains known to be located just below the modern surface of the tell.

The three seasons of excavation in Field IV, located on the western edge of the tell, were conducted in the summers of 1992, 1993, and 1999. Digital reports on these three seasons are available on-line at www.cobb.msstate.edu/dig. These on-line reports contain approximately 3000 color photos and 350 VR movies. Many of the objects featured in the on-line reports are from the Persian era, specifically ca. 850 ceramic moldmade figurines. See the sample below, a mother and child plaque figurine.
